Education Sensation

The SB40 project group of the Truman Create Symposium focused on educating and helping the community express themselves through art. For the first portion of the semester, we focused on running a kid’s corner for Red Barn, a local crafts festival for all of the Adair County community.

After Red Barn was over in early October, our class split into two groups: craft kits and SB40.

This is the Japanese art of resist dyeing, also known as Shibori dyeing. Through various techniques, an array of patterns can be achieved to decorate and embellish cloth. Think of shibori as a more traditional form of what we know as tie-dye

Indigo Workshop

Lil' Zine

Lil' Zine made small Zines, or self-published magazines, and spread them throughout campus. Topics ranged from Truman's names throughout the years to Taylor Swift.

If you would like to see the zines, they are on the Lil' Zine page. You will also be able to print them out yourself.

Cyanotypes

Cyanotypes are photographic art created with fabric. Different groups made their cyanotypes about different topics. One example is mental health. Visit the cyanotype page to learn more!

Mural

A section of the Truman CREATE Symposium dedicated to bringing some color and life to the Kirksville downtown area. Read the story of inspiration and the dedication of a group of students to see it come to life.

The mural is finished and available to visit year-round in downtown Kirksville! It's in the alley right off of Franklin St. across the street from Pagliai's Pizza.

Create Symposium

As scholars of the liberal arts, we at Truman believe in making meaningful relationships with those around us. Nearly one hundred students have come together to reach out to the community via various art projects and social events. Come take a look at what we’ve accomplished!
